Career-driven Victor Flint and his wife Nora Shepherd keep their finances strictly separate. He watches coldly as she takes the subway and eats instant noodles while pregnant—even charging her for the time he spends accompanying her to prenatal checkups. Nora records every expense in an account book. On the day their child is born, Victor receives a settlement demand for 1.78 million—a bill that ends up costing him everything.
